Maybe he falls off the citadel (letter to Lisha somehow gets to her) and is supposedly dead... And then he drags himself to a place where nobody knows anything about his reputation, and he returns to Meridell 10 years later and nobody knows who he is until... Yeah, I think you get the point.
The loader looks a little like a blinkie animation that goes much too slowly...
