Water Distribution Plant

I am ready to rip my hair out!  I keep fiddling with the levers and stuff and have been for half an hour and I still haven't gotten it right!!!!  Is there anyway to know whcich ones to click?

Not really. The combination seems to be different for everyone.
I can really only offer two pieces of information.
Never put all the levers and valves in the up position. This causes Altador to flood. (On the other hand, you may want to do this to "reset" your puzzle.)
Put all levers in the down position and all valves to "X". Then, turn the left valve in the left room. It that doesn't do anything, put that valve back to "X" and turn the right valve. Test each valve or lever individually across the three rooms. If you haven't been interrupted by a victory screen, go back to the left room, and turn both valves. Then check each valve or lever with that leftmost valve turned. Does that make sense? You'll keep at it until you are interrupted.

....it'll say arcy=(some number) put a - in front of the number. This is in the URL. Though the abyss does nothing, I'm not sure why people are obsessing over it

it says i need to go to the city affairs office.... im done up to plotting the constellation after the sick petpet, the one that the clue comes from the skeith after the pet is better, someone please help

I don't think it'll give you more points. It'd be like giving you points for walking into the wrong room for the LDP plot

Well... They did record the people who got buried in the Mountain of Scarabs (not the first Pile of Scarabs) in the LDP and it is listed as a step, even though you didn't need it to finish the plot. There was also another step that wasn't necessary to complete the plot that was recorded too. (I can't remember what it was off the top of my head)
Though I don't think they gave points out for that part (being buried in the Mountain of Scarabs).

Yerg. Getting into the abyss is hard. But like someone pointed out, there are numbers in teh URL that change. Maybe if you mess with those for some time you may get somewhere.

Im still lost. I have tried everyway I have read about. all combos i can think of and still nothing. Its so annoying seeing someone say a certain way worked for them and others and it not working for me!!

I suggest simply clicking random things. I got it on my first try just by clicking and watching how the vats filled/unfilled with water

Wah.I can't do this.I can't.It's driving me cuckoo.Turn valve,pull lever,turn valve,pull lever,fill vats,fill tubes,drain vats,drain tubes.....ugh...I'm dizzy....I read fuzzles' post and I'm still working on it 30 minutes later.I'm about to give up.
Edit:*screech* I GOTS IT!WAHEY!*runs around room screaming with arms outstretched*

hey! well i want to thank fuzzler for helping me and anybody else out 
also heres a tip for people who are starting the water thing
you have to fill first both the 1st and 3 rd room (not the middle room) and then start using fuzzlers tip
but then again im not sure if itll be diffrent

I also followed fuzzles advise and finished it withing 5 minutes if it werent for you i would be stuck on it for hours like i was with the petpet!!!!!!! THANKS

I'm really glad to see that method has worked so well for so many people. (I guess most of those who it didn't work for chose not to tall me.) I found my combo pretty quickly this way but I expected some people would still have a lot of clicking ahead of them. I can't take full credit for this idea, though. Someone on the boards suggested this wasn't a sequence of movements (and I'm still not sure about that.)

The truth is...... its unfair because if you add it all together theres over 100.000 possabilitie way over that, at least thats what my calculater tells me

I only get 256 possibilities. 2(on/off)^8(# of switches). How are you getting over 100K?

Heh! All I did was clicked all three valves in the first room, then 2 in teh second room, and I got it! Lucky me.

I totally can't get it! I've tried every possible combination. (Literally) And I tried fuzz's way. Could it be that it doesn't happen in firefox? That's what happened with the other plot parts...

I used Firefox. I'm sorry it didn't help you.  I don't know of any sure-fire way to solve the water plant.

I used firefox and I just clicked randomly, I flooded the place once, and the second time I thought I was way off, but I got it after some trial and error. There isn't a combination per se, since doing one thing in one place will affect the outcome elsewhere, if that makes sense. If you turn one wheel, then flip a switch, it's diffrent than doing it the other way arround. Keep trying, you'll get it eventually!

Click randomly and watch the way the water moves as it goes through the pipes. When it changes, I think, you can exit that room and go to the next. No guarantee though

Using Firefox, I made an HTML page with links to all the levers and wheels. Then I randomly moved my cursor up and down the list, clicking the mouse wheel (middle mouse button if you have one) incessantly.
