You will need a total of three rocks. If you aren't sure how to get the rocks, go check one of the guides.
Put one rock in the first gear and see what happens. Look around the top rim of the opening and see how many notches you opened to. Jam each gear individually and mark down which gears jam up to 4, 5, and 6 notches to the right. One gear will cause a reset of the puzzle and you will have to start over. When you find the three gears jam all three and you should see the pattern of three spots on the floor again. Click one and you will get the pattern.
