What happened to Subeta?
|
|
I was half-thinking about checking it out, but it seems to have been obliterated. Subeta.org, subeta.net, and the IP address all turn up a "page-cannot-be-displayed" error in my browser, and when I tried to open subetax.org, it said that index.php couldn't be found on the server.
From what I've heard, Subeta was attacked because of an item called "longcat". However, wikibeta says it's still up. So, is Subeta still around, or not?

Yes, it is back up. It had some big problems to do with the item database so was down for a couple of days. (Mbif would know more than me)

The longcat incident was well over a year ago.

Never mind; It's just my computer.
|
|
Well, I've been a member of Subeta for a little while now, and so far I have a very good impression of it. However, the only thing I've been wondering is why I can very often access Subeta with my Windows XP computer but I am never able to access it with my Windows ME computer. The browser does not seem to matter, either; I have been able to open the main page in IE6/IE7 on XP but not with IE6 or Firefox (my preferred browser) on ME. Both computers use the same type of connection, a DSL modem. I have tried clearing my Firefox/IE cache; both the browsers on ME act as if subeta.org doesn't exist, displaying the "page cannot be displayed" message, even if I refresh. IE6 even bothered to try to open www.www.subeta.org.com once when subeta.org failed.
What's the problem (or, if no one knows, who should I ask about this)?

c - windows - system32 - drivers - etc. - hosts
Open the hosts file with notepad and see if subeta's blocked. Someone was distributing a bit of malware a while back that blocked Subeta via the hosts file.

I found hosts, renamed it to hosts.txt, and it solved the problem; thanks.

Hmm, renaming it might cause some problems. Did you check the contents of the file to see what URLs and IPs it listed?

Seems a little too much trouble for a website which should be simple. Hopefully it will be working soon, because I liked some of what I saw at Subeta. Mostly because they didn't pull punches with the "Bloody" pets, which I thought was bizarre.

It's not a problem with the site, it's a problem with the OP's computer. Not our fault.
And Subeta is geared towards a more adult crowd, so we have a lot of interesting pets and items. ;) Like the new Kinkylove set for the human avatars. xD
