There isn't really a set way that makes it easy for you to get around. I had the same problems when I joined, it was confusing, but you soon get used to it 
Just keep active and keep trying, you must know some stuff in order to of posted this here

Click on "Main Index." You will see a list of the different categories.
To the left of each category is a lightbulb. If it is lit, there are new posts since the last time you checked that category. Click on the category. The threads that have new posts will be highlighted (using the "sun" theme, the new ones are brown and the old ones are yellow. On "leaves" it might be the other way around -- I forget).
Start with the "Information" category where the Webmaster posts all of her general announcements. Then try "General Chat." Beyond that, go where your interest takes you.
For Private Messages, your profile, chosing a color theme, etc., go to "My Home."
For the Neoitems lists, click on "Home" in the top right corner. "Items" has all the items, by ID#, with pictures. Checklists has them by category (e.g. Book, Battle Magic) without pictures. The "Home" page is also where the Shout Box is located.
Hope that is enough to get you started.
