He's only wake-able at random times during the day. Keep an eye on the NeoBoards; people usually post when he's able to be awakened

I awoke him once. And I didn't get anything. I am still trying to. At first I was worried that he might eat my petpets. But I tried it today and he didn't. He just awoke and scaried me off. I don't know how to get the prizes.

I think it's random. Maybe it's like the shrine and you have to try at a certain time for it to be affective.

There are certain times during the day when he will wake up. Just check on the avatar board every now and then and people will post if he's awake.
