Is it possible to continue with the rest of the plot if you never got to help with the scroll repository? Every time I go back to the temple, it takes me right to the faerie statue, even if I click on an external link to another place in the temple (i.e. the gift shop, libraries, etc).

You have to tell the faerie statue a false prophecy (anything other than what your tablet says) to be able to leave the statue room.
