Symol Hole Effects
A big thanks to kireina_akuma for providing us with the information!
In trying to figure out what the purpose of the Symol Hole is (it never does anything for me), I started replacing numbers in the URL, and here's what I came up with.
This is what a typical URL looks like for it: http://www.neopets.com/medieval/symolhole.phtml?type=end&e=0&rnd=986142
See where it says &e=0? That's what tells you what happens.
** Please note that these are only descriptions. Placing them in your browser will not result in the prizes described below. The only way to gain the prizes is to actually play the game!
0: Nothing happens.
1, 2, 3: Gives you an item of some sort. What the item is I don't know; since it's not supposed to give me one (I believe the &rnd= number influences this) it wouldn't show it. I've heard that someone got a window of sorts from it.
4: Raises your petpet a level.
5: Gives you a bit of NP; how much the most you can get is, I'm not sure. I've heard a number around 200 NP, so far.
6: As far as I know, nothing happens, but let me know if it does!
7 and above: Seems to have

i finally got the avy! the url was http://www.neopets.com/medieval/symolhole.phtml?type=end&giveav=1&rnd=474931 it happend at 11:59 am nst on 4/28/06 i also got a Stained Glass Symol Window hopes this helps in some way

Hmm... I put in a 1 for my 0, and it 'gave' me an item... no picture or name showed up, though.
Edit:
What if the # &rnd=____ is the item's ID #?

Well, TNT has said that it actually does give out prizes and affect your petpet. It's just really really really really really really random.

Mysterious Symol Hole
In Meridell, next to a gnarled old tree there is a mysteriously deep hole. It was probably dug by a Symol, as it is only big enough for a Petpet to go through. Do you want to let your Petpet go in and investigate?
Snarkie jumps out of the hole a few seconds later...
Wow - Snarkie is carrying an item. I wonder where they found ' Squeezy Symol Toy'!!

Yet when I looked in my avatar drop down list the symol avie was there (big smiles)

At the top right hand corner of your post, 4th bottom from the right. There is a little bottom that saids 'edit'.
Be sure to use it next time you make any more mistakes on your post, saves making double posts, when not need. ;)
I got an Pirakeet Plushie from it (early - middle last year), worth about 89k at the time.
Went down to around 20k, shortly after my petpet found it.
Didn't get to sell it for much either, which was a bit of a pitty.

I know I've heard you only need to take one pet down the symol hole....but I always take all 4 of ours at once. Well, today, I was doing my daughter's. She already has the avie for it, too...bugger! Anyway, I took her first pet, second, then on the third one we got this:
Something has happened!
Ohhh how cute. It seems charm has got a Larnikin in its mouth. Have you been feeding it lately?
This was about 12:40 PM NST. But this is the kicker. The Charm angelpuss petpet wasn't even the ACTIVE petpet! It was on her FIRST pet I took down! So, any of your petpets can snag something! Even one you have already taken down!
