I've gotten the component ingredients within the specifications 4 times and each time, it's bubbled over. can anyone tell me what's going on?

Could you list what step you're on, or the potions you are being asked to make? I had a similar problem on Step 4 where it asked for three potions, one of which was the Spectral Essence.

it seems to always be the last potion. I've tried Loran-Flare's babaa wool jurpleberry (component with nothing done to it) x2 thing... not working. I'm reading red_citrus's page now. It was my 5th time...
I know the other ingredients are right because they seem to "smoke" when they're done right. this one starts that way with the babaa wool, and drops to regular as soon as I give it the jurpleberry component, so I'm guessing that may mean something.

Thanks everyone who suggested http://petpages.neopets.com/~SierraSea! I finally am finished with #2 and am onto #3! I really thought I was going to fail the plot, but now I'm back in the game!
ETA: Man, I still managed to mess up the 5th step after more than half an hour of trying. Well, hopefully Neopets won't close this part until after I get it

For the people getting bubbled over cauldrons all the time, check and double check that you have the correct weight, values and are doing the steps right. If it doesn't work and you are sure everything is correct, then maybe try a different recipe and hopefully that will work instead.
I also found that writing a list of the ingredients and what needed to be done to them and then ticking each step off as I did it helped tremendously. I don't know if that is much help though to you guys. Good luck and keep at it!

Wooohoooo! Finished! Finally! *wipes brow*
I hope they count Platinum Mist, Ice Plasma and Psionic Singularity separately when they're awarding prizes... I like that they give more points to you if you complete it quicker, since actually being the first to discover it is a big achievement, but I hope that won't disadvantage those unlucky enough to get Platinum Mist and Psionic Singularity (like me ), since it took a good few days longer for those to be discovered, leading me to believe that it wasn't actually possible to begin with!
Anyway, glad to be done with it! Looks like this is the end of the potion making - at long last!

wow, that SeirraSea petpage was amazing. Thanks whoever posted it. It took me a day and a half but finally I'm done the silly potion step.
