"checklist" in database

this has probably been asked/answerd before at some point but i cant see it. when you list the items as a checklist and tick an item, i dont see an option to "save" it. and when i go back, it isnt ticked anymore. is there anyway to make it save?

or was it just designed to be printed out and ticked by hand? coz that makes it hard when new items come out...
