You can definitely get the avatar with a painted Snowbunny, as I got it with a Green Snowbunny.

My snowbunny will be 1 yr old in 8 days. I'll know the answer to your question then. But my sources tell me it's not retired and any color will work.

Congrats on getting the Snowbunny avatar, in 8 days, but I've already pointed out that it's neither retired nor limited to plain-colored petpets.

No. The petpet's age is only effected if you detach it.

How does Kelp or Golden Dubloon work?
I mean, how do I get leftovers? Is it random, or does it depend on how full my pets are or how many pets I have or...?

No one has ever found a correlation between any of those things and getting the avatar. As far as I have heard, it's completely random. And regularly expensive.
