A referree only gets credit if the person buys gold shells or premium. That credit could be in the form of gold shells, money to a paypal account or money going to charity. On Gopets they call it the 'Associate Program'.

There's a new thing now in addition to the Associate Program where you get Invite Tokens if your referrals level or basically just be active. A shop will be opening soon where you can spend these tokens on different items.
