My guess is that long-term, the books and furniture should, in theory, hold their value best--furniture disappears into Neohomes and books disappear for good.
In general paintbrushes usually hold their value too (after the deflation they experienced initially), but I don't know about the Ghost one.
I haven't bought anything with my plot points yet (I did get one of the flowers for my Nurse Lucy Memorial Neogarden, but I bought that from a user shop).
Anyway, I think you'd have to get a list of prices to figure out which items are best. You could make a spreadsheet or list where you have the price of each item, the amount of points it takes to get it, and then the NP to points ratio (divide number A by number B). For example (approximations as I don't have the Super Shop Wizard):
Hissi Oil Keychain - 130 NP - 25 points - 5.2 NP/plot point Nurse Skeleton Bobblehead - 19,000 NP - 2,000 points - 9.5 NP/plot point Mysterious Potted Flower - 32,000 NP - 5,000 points - 6.4 NP/plot point Ghost Paint Brush - 108,500 NP - 8000 points - 13.5625 NP/plot point
Whatever has the largest NP/plot point ratio will be your best buy, and if you want items that are worth less (such as the Potted Flower) you would be better off buying an item worth more (like a Ghost PB), and then selling it, spending the extra NP on the item that's a poorer value. In other words, getting and selling one Ghost PB would give you the NP to buy 3 Mysterious Potted Flowers, whereas using your plot points to buy the flower would actually only give you enough to buy 1 and 3/5ths flowers. See what I mean?
I'd do all the work for you, but I'm still holding on to my points and waiting. (Technically, if you wanted max profit, you may have done better buying items early on and selling; a lot of the prices have gone down now from where they were soon after the plot concluded. Your other option for max profit is to wait for a very long time--but remember that as time passes the plot is forgotten, and suddenly in-jokes from the plot don't seem as funny, so they may not sell as well...)
