I've found that to beat Garoo, you need burrow, a Shovel Plus, and the weapons mentioned before. A freezer would be nice (snowglobe staff is cheap although a little risky) and ideally, you'd want a 55 boost although you could survive with a 35 boost. Also, ditch the bronze scorchstone for a greater healing scroll.
